Frankii faces

Our first portrait subject of the year was Frankii who, incidentally, was the first model to pose for Dudlow Drawing Board, nine years ago almost to the day. She has hardly changed, though her hairstyle has, many times. Her current coiffure is distinctly asymmetrical.

She is of course a Sassoon-trained hairstylist. Her current project is to deliver hairdressing in a specially-adapted ambulance.

The first task was to draw Frankii from four different angles in short poses (less than 10mins each).

Over lockdown the skill of portrait drawing has been somewhat narrowed to drawing from a two-dimensional sources –photos or on-line poses. So it seemed particularly important to start by seeing Frankii’s face as part of her head and therefore three-dimensional.
