Design for music and musicians

Forgive me but I love this design: it still feels fresh and radiates the uninhibited enthusiasm of this improvised music party.
Chris Burn, who commissioned this, was anxious that his name should not be set in Helvetica: this was when I became aware of the curse of Helvetica which afflicts people with names like Burn, Burns, Norburn, Fishburn etc. Try setting these names in Helvetica (U&lc) and you will see what I mean.

I got quite involved with medieval music thanks to my first wife, Jean, who is a singer. For a while we had an early music group called Fifth Element five female singers who first got together to sing the music of Hildegard of Bingen. Being the non-musician, my job was to organise the performances, which gave me the chance to play with medieval lettering:
