Moving targets: more quick sketches of Denise and Janet

by George

The best sketchbooks are filled with this kind of drawing: spontaneous, loose, speculative, they seem to be groping towards something substantial. They are snatched from the human activity around us, in pubs and coffee-bars, parks and squares.

Sketching like this includes many a false start as people shift and shuffle around – even get up and leave the scene. But as you get better, little gems appear among the scribbles, essences captured eloquently with freshness and succinctness.

When you’re doing it, however, finished artwork is not the point of the exercise. Results are incidental: it’s the process that counts.
