ESTHER: I think I might call this done. I’m not 100% happy, but I’m also worried about overworking. Although one person’s overworking could be another person’s barely started.

PETER: Lovely, and I’m not just saying that to be polite. Good call on the overworking. This has a light, airy touch which suits the fabric/subject. Like the complimentary colours. Really like this.

ESTHER: Thanks so much Peter! I enjoyed the subject so much that I actually did two versions, but this lighter one is my favourite.

ESTHER: Here’s the first one

This one was an exploration really and isn’t finished- bit more of a study.

PETER: I prefer the lighter one, all those thousands of tones. One thing I really like about your pencil work is the use of lines in shading. It brings it to life, makes it distinctive and the first painting has that feel too.

ESTHER: Thank you, and I agree. I think tonal is definitely my thing!

PETER: I think you are good at tone but you also represent it in an interesting and distinctive way.

DAVID: I like both , they’re very different.

CHRIS: Think love first one, it’s beautiful but both great.
